What is your character like?

Dear readers,

Have you ever had a friend ask you about someone? Maybe your mom or dad has asked you about a new friend at school. People are always asking, "What are they like?"

We have been studying the characters in our book by naming their character traits based on their actions, thoughts, dialogue, and appearance. Often times a character is why we enjoy or don't enjoy a book. It can also be why we enjoy some people more than others. A character's traits are very important.

I am interested in knowing more about your character. Tell me the title of the book you are reading and choose a character (main or secondary). If you were to describe the character in one word, what word would you use and why? Use the text to support your answer.

Remember to edit and revise your writing before you post! You must answer all the questions.

My book is The Magician's Elephant. The character I am going to choose is Peter.

A word that would describe Peter is happy.I think that word would describe him best because he is so thankful which makes him happy. He finds his baby sister in a home for girls. He litterly in the book it says he starts getting tears in his eyes.

Ms.Sikes,

The book I am reading is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. The main character, Harry, has a bunch of adventures in Hogwarts. The word I would use to describe him is brave. The reason I think he is brave is he stood up to Draco Malfoy when he took a Neville's ball. He also was the first person to survive a attack from evil lord Voldimort. That's bravery! That's why I think one word to describe Harry Potter is that he is brave.

Ms. Sikes,

I am reading the book "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry, the main character, is determined to me. Even though his aunt and uncle hate him and his cousin punches him a lot he still goes on with his life. And even though he knows there is a big adventure in front of him, being a wizard and all, He knows he can pull through.

Dear Ms. Sikes,
The book I'm reading is Sideways Stories From Wayside School by Louis Sachar. The main character is Mrs. Jewls's, and she is a teacher at a school on the thirtieth floor. The way I'd describe Mrs. Jewl's is a problem fixer. The reason I think that is because she helps a lot of students in her class with all kinds of things her students need help with like teaching them how to count. That is the word I'd use to describe Mrs. Jewl's.

Dear Miss.Sikes,

The book I’m reading is The 39 Clues; Emporer’s Code. One word to describe Dan, one of the main characters in my book is daring. He is daring because he is always wanting to what nobody else would even think of doing. One example is at this old mountain called Mount Song e climbs an ancient stairway that has at least one-thousand steps. Would you think of doing that? That is why I would call Dan daring.

Ms. Sikes,
The book I’m reading is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. In it the one of the main characters Peeta is brave. I think he is brave because he killed a ton of Mutts by himself alone in the Hunger Games. He also is brave from the year before when his leg was injured and when the games were over had to get an artificial leg. That is why I think he is brave.

Dear Ms. Sikes,

The name of my book is A Wrinkle in Time. My favorite character is Charles Wallace. I like Charles Wallace because he is really funny because he makes his family stuff like tunafish sandwiches and he's only like 5 years old.

One word I would use to describe Charles Wallace is sassy. I think that word fits him because he is kind of like bossy and stuff. One time in the book Charles Wallace asks a question and after it says he aked the question in his best bossy little boy voice.

The book I am reading is the 39 Clues, The Maze Of Bones. One word to discribe Dan, one of the main characters, is brave. I am saying he's brave is because he's willing to do anything. Such as... "no, it's a trap!" But he stepped on the marble anyway and the ground collapsed.

Dear Ms.Sikes,
The book I am reading Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief. Samantha Keyes or "Sammy" is the main character of the book. To describe Sammy I would day she is determine, and concern. For example: Sammy was determining to crack this case. I think Sammy is a determine girl is because she has been all over the place trying to find the hotel thief. The text to support that thought is “Come on, hurry up I’ll show you,” Sammy said. That’s why Sammy is determined.
Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Sikes,

The book that I’m reading is Artemis Fowl. The main character is Artemis Fowl. The one word that I would use to describe Artemis Fowl is sneaky. The reason I chose sneaky is because Artemis Fowl stole fairy technology, money and gold from fariys, and he makes deals involving money behind his mother’s back,. He almost gets killed every day. That’s why I think sneaky is the word to describe Artemis Fowl.

I think the author described the book very well, and the reason I like the book is because I like fantasy books.

I predict that Artemis Fowls luck has run out, and that he will die with his body guard.

Dear Ms. Sikes,
The title of my book is Alice in Wonderland. I chose the Queen of Hearts as my character, and she is a secondary character. If I had to give one word to describe her it would be demanding, because everything always has to be done for her and it has to be done precise. This is an example: “Cards off with their heads!!” or “Go plant a red rose bush now.”

Dear Miss Sikes,
My book is The orphan of Elise Island. The main character in my book is a kid named Dominic. My word to descried him is shy and intelligent. It is a mixed because that is what his emotions are in the whole book. I picked shy because he doesn’t want the kids in his school to know that he is an orphan. I put intelligent because he is everything that intelligent means. For example he is always communicating with people and talking to people. That is what I think about Dominic.

Dear Ms. Sikes,

The book I am reading is called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling. Harry, The main character is known for his brilliance and his inter wizard. It is hard to tell one word about him you could go on and on about him, but one word to me is not enough. Harry has many adventures in front of him at Hogwarts that relates to his bravery. As I recall I think Harry's word would be brave because he fights up against his uncle, aunt, and cousin. Which also tells me if he can live life as a slave and fight up against the muggles [ A wizard term meaning human] than he could do anything that he believes in.

Hi Ms. Sikes,
My book is Harry Potter. My character will be Harry. My word on Harry would be Interesting. I put this word because I do think he is interesting because he doesn`t like to read to find the answers in quizzes, has odd relationship with people, and has had an odd and sad life. What he does like that is odd is that he likes to make people happy, gets into truble, and disturbs the school rules (sometimes).I think that he loves becoming the center of attention, because everyones paying him attention.

Dear Ms. Sikes,

The book I am reading is Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief. The main character's name is Samantha Keyes, but everyone calls her Sammy Keyes.

The one word I would use to describe Sammy would be nosy. The reason I choose that word is because, Sammy once saw a guy robbing a lady's hotel room. Later that day she went to that hotel and hid behind a chair and eavesdropped on the conversation between the investigating cop and the lady who got robbed. Another example would be, Sammy was hiding in a closet listening to her grandmother talk to the cop about a note the robber wrote and meant to send to Sammy. However, the note went to the mean and nosy neighbor, Mrs. Graybill. These are two examples of why nosy best describes Sammy.

My book is called,"The Mysterious Benedict Society". My main character's name is Reynie, but his full name is Reynard. He never really wants to stand out or think much of himself.Reynie is very very smart and works a lot. When I read what Reynie is saying I would have to say that he can be shy at times.Whenever he is taking the tests he is very doubtful and nervous. One of my opinions is that he just needs to calm down about everything, and relax.

I Dear, Miss. Sikes
am reading James and the Giant Peach. The main character is James. One word to de scribe him is miserable because he lives with his mean aunts, and his parents died. One type of characters traits are thoughts. Some of his thoughts are frustrated because when he does a little thing wrong he gets called names. He is probably is thinking I want to leave here. I think he is mad too because he lost the crystals. A action is happy and nervous. Happy, because if he drinks the special crystal water he will never suffer again. Some dialogue is the aunts call him "disgusting little pest"" or ""you miserable creature.'' his appearance is he is a boy, and he is about 7 years old.

Dear Ms. Sikes

I am reading the book “Stormbreaker” with my reading colleague in class. I will choose one of the secondary characters named Ian Rider. Even though he is dead, he is a vital part in the book. If I would choose one word that describes him it would be secretive. The reason I think that is because he told Alex that he was a banker, but really he was a secret agent. Also, he didn’t tell Alex a lot of important information.

The title of my book is Double Fudge .One word to describe Cousin Howie would be overprotective .I think this because he does not let his children watch TV, go to sleepovers, eat candy or have artificially flavored drinks or food. One day for breakfast the kids had cereal and cousin Howie freaked out.

Right now my Reading Colleague and I are reading Charlottes Web. One of the main characters name is Charlotte. One word to describe her would probably be Kind because she basically sacrificed her life for Wilbur. She knew that Wilbur was going to be bacon an ham at some point. After wilbur found out about his future he was not happy. Charlotte decided to save Wilbur by writing words in her web to trick the farmers so they thought they had the best pig ever. Charlotte has changed his life forever, and now he knows what it feels like to have a true friend.
