What Do YOU Think?

Readers,

As we read our fiction books, we have learned how to get to know a character in a deep way. We have studied:
  • character traits (appearance, actions, dialogue, and thoughts)
  • a character's relationship with other characters
  • how a character changes in the story
At this point, you should have a well-rounded view of the character in your book. Now, I want to know what you think about your character -- your OPINION.

Your post must state your opinion and then be supported by the text and what you know about the world. Be sure to edit.

Here is my example:

I think Ida B is trying to be tough because she doesn't know how to handle all of the heartache from her mother's illness and the changes in her life. In the story, her mother cries on her shoulder and apologizes to Ida B for the pain she is causing her, and Ida B has to give her best effort to not cry and be kind to her mother. Instead, she shows no emotion toward her mother. Also, when Ms. Washington puts her hand on Ida B, she feels it for some time after, which means Ida B still cares. I predict Ida B will come around because she cannot continue to live with such a hateful attitude. It will eventually get to her.

Cathrine is embarresed because she has a little brother who has autism. I think in the future she will have a hard time with people because she is embarressed about David. But at the end of the book she is not embarressed anymore. She thought that David was a big deal but people really don't care.

I think that in different Fudge books that Fudge will become more crazy than ever. If there was a to Fudge a Mania that the Hatcher family would visit Grandma and Buzzy Senior. I think that Mitzi will get Fudge, Peter, Shelia, and Grandma to come play more baseball games with her and Big Apfel. I hope that Fudge will finish his book called "I see a Fudge" I hope that someday Fudge and Shelia will get "married".

Catherine has patients with her brother even when David gets very annoying. In the book Catherine protects David from a bully that is teasing him. Catherine cares a lot about David. She has lots of patience with David and is kind to him. With such patience David and her will get along great in the future.

I think Jason will learn to walk and talk again because he has been going to therapy for years in the story. I also think that he will get mad at Catherine because her friend is coming back in town and he will be jealous that Catherine is playing with her more than him. I think Catherine and Jason will still be best friends.

I think Matilda was trying to be brave so her parents would think she didn’t care how she was treated. Also, I think Matilda doesn’t like her parents, but she doesn’t show it. In the story Matilda’s parents treat Matilda really bad. Although she is only four, they leave her at home. They leave her at home because they have more important things to do than watch their own child. If there was going to be a sequel, I predict Matilda won’t miss her parents because she will be living with Miss Honey.

I think Clementine is caring. I think this because Clementine wanted to help her dad make the pigeons leave the front side of the apartment building so bad, she spent all her money to buy a giant picture of her cat. I think Clementine is going to grow up to be a great leader from all that she cares about.

Catherine- (the main character in the book Rules)- is emberassed by her brother. I know this because once in the story, Ryan was playing around with David and gave him a gum-raper that didn't have any gum in it. Catherine thought that Ryan was making fun of how David wasn't smart enough to know that it didn't have any gum in it when he first got the gum-raper. Catherine is hurt and embaressed by this. Catherine reacts to this by going up to her room and writes words such as- guilty, torn, ect. for Jason's collection of words. In this case, what I know about the word is sometimes when people are hurt or embaressed, they think it's the end of the world, but they'll get over it sooner or later. So Catherine won't be mad at Ryan for long. :-)

My theory about Matilda is that she always can find teh silver lining and can dig her way out of any problem. When all the other kids would get " beat up " by Miss Truchbull and never could get the good of Miss Trunchbull and could never beat her up. So Matilda came along and found a way to beat her up by floating the chalk and writing about her murdering Magnus. Matilda beat her up so much that Miss Trunchbull left school and was never to be seen again. Also when her parents were moving she found a way to live with Miss Honey. In the future I predict that she will avoid many other opsticles.

Clementine is a third grade girl who has a big heart for helping her friends, but things do not always turn out right for her. She is also a good problem solver in tough times. I think Clementine is a sweet person who overcomes hardships with Margeret. Clemen- tine is a helpful daughter for her parents and her little brother.

I think Clementine has a lot of talents she just doesn't know it. She will have a talent show very soon and has to find out her talent.

Catherine thinks that when people look at David or Jason with Catherine they don't think about the special people they think about her and think she is weird. She feels embarrassed and thats why she tries to teach David rules. She loves David and is patient with him most of the time

In the Baby Sitters Club, I think that Kristy is a very caring person because she thinks about other people. An example of this is when she decided to wait and have a party until one of her friends, Stacey, could be there, instead of having it without her. She is also trying to be very brave, even though she is scared. I think Kristy is having a hard time because her mother may be getting married and Kristy does not think she likes her mother's boyfriend, Watson. She likes her family the way it is and does not want things to change. She does manage to be nice and force a tiny smile when her mother announces that she may be getting married because she loves her mom. She was much nicer than she had been when he brought Chinese food over and she was very rude to him. She also would always say no to babysitting Watson's kids because she did not want to be nice to him. She was finally forced to babysit his kids and saw that they were very nice. They also were sad that their parents were divorced. I think it made her feel better to know they also were scared too. At the end, she decided she was happy for her mom and liked Watson and his kids. She even wrote him a letter and told him she was ok with them getting married, which was a big change from the way she felt at the beginning of the book. I predict they will all be one happy family.

My theory about RULES is that David will not learn his rules. But Cathrine and Kristi will be friends and Jason and Cathrine will be friends. I think that because David rarely follows them. I think Kristi and Cathrine will be friends because that's how I became friends.

I have a theory that Matilda gets back at Miss. Trunchbull and even maybe move in with Miss. Honey. I have facts that back up the theory of Matilda getting back at the Trunchbull because of the incident of where the Trunchbull gets mad at Matilda for putting a newt in her water jug when she didn’t even do it and I back up facts of Matilda moving in with Miss. Honey because she has bad parents.

Clementine is a caring friend to Margaret, because she cut her hair off for her. My prediction is she will turn into a loving person and will not go to the principals office as much.

I think Peter Hatcher is over-reacting a little. His mom is going to have a baby, and Peter thinks the baby is going to be like Fudge. He will get used to the baby. Peter wants to go live with Jimmy Fargo. Now they are moving to Princeton! He is really mad.

I think Catherine will change her thoughts about David and will give him some slack and grow very close even though she is embarrassed by him. During the story Catherine thinks her Dad doesn't care and that her parents only pay attention to David. Then I think Jason will get out of his wheelchair and will be able to talk slowly and progress in normal things but will always be different. Catherine and Jason will become the best of friends and Catherine will not be afraid to tell anyone about Jason's disability. Then I finally think Kristy will forgive Catherine and they will be great friends.

Peter is just trying to get along with his brother Fudge. Still, Peter needs a break from Fudge. Whenever peter wants to be alone, Fudge shows up and will not go away. I think One day when Peter grows up he will look back and laugh at all the amazing things he did in the book. Will Peter be able to stand Fudge, Sheila Tudman, and some other crazy things? Well, Peter doesn't think so.

In the book Rules, I think Catherine is sensitive about David's actions and his Autism. Catherine and David's dad ask Catherine if she wants to go to the video store, but Catherine says no,because she gets embarresed and sensetive about his actions (pg 2-3.) I think that Catherine would start to enjoy David just the way he is and his actions.

My opinion about Comfort, is that she is really messed up about her dog Dismay being lost. My supporting text is that she gets a fever over it and stays in bed for 4 days because of it. My proof from the world is that when my dog died, I felt the same way.

Catherine used to be very embarrased about David because he has autism. She now knows to accept people with mental problems. She has learned to accept those with mental problems by being around David and Jason. In the future I think she will treat David better and teach others to accept people with mental problems.

I think Matilda is just a reguler girl. Even though she is brilliant, she doesn't show off or brag. For example, I am very good at guitar hero, but I don't go out and brag about it. Also, Matilda has two hateful parents, but Matilda still loves them. Thats my theory abut Matilda.

Catherine(main character) is going to help Jason and he will be able to talk again and will help him try to walk and David will stop being annoying and Catherine will be come best friends.

Catherine is just trying to make friends with her new next door nabor. But having David her brother with autism and Ryan a really annoying boy that lives down the street doesn’t help her chances. Having a brother with autism is hard with the entire family revolves around. One time she goes to a helping clinic for David and meets a boy that can’t speak and takes speech class from a speech therapist. They become friends and it changes Catherine’s seeing of disabled people forever.

Comfort is really just an ordinary happy, funny girl like everyone else. She tries to fit in but writing about dead people and going to sooo many funerals just doesn't seem like the way to impress other people. She just so happens to have one friend named Declaration, who is the daughter of one of her dad's friend. When her mean cousin, Peach, comes to town, she avoids the family as much as she can so she doesn't have to look at Peach. When a sudden flood comes on the same day as the funeral for their Great-Great Aunt Florentine, Declaration and Comfort fight and don't talk to eachother for a while. When they lose Dismay, ( Comfort's dog) in the flood Comfort thinks he is dead. That is all I have read so far, but I can't wait to read more!
