Dear Ms. Sikes,

Dear Ms.Sikes,

When someone says Arther/Artie I think of:video game lover of Other World, curious, and a pretty good secret keeper.

I sometimes connect to my chacter. Why? It's because sometimes I very curious, too. Sometimes I find a game that I can't stop playing too.

1 I think Mrs. Jewels is really sassy in some ways

2 I think i do not connect to some of the kids in the book but i do connect to Mrs. Jewels because I am sometimes sassy!

Dear Ms.S
My opinion in the Ninth Ward is that Lanesha and her Mama Ya'Ya will survive hurricane Katrina pg. 138. Because if they didn't there probably wouldn't be a book about them.
It's not that easy to find a connection with Lanesha because of her religion, and belief. Lanesha will always refuse to leave her house before the hurricane pg.78, and I would too.

1. I felt like Artie is a little bit of a nerd, he plays so much video games. However, where I am in the book he has stopped seeming like a nerd in doing so much sword practice.

2. I connect with Artie when people are saying weird things that he doesn't think is true. It reminds me of when my sisters always say: "Mom said this, Mom said that" and I don't believe them. Of course Artie's situation is much more extreme but it in the end we find out it is true

Dear Ms.Sikes
1. I like Artie because he is curious and he has a good relationship with his sister. I know this because he tried to buy a customary controller for her.
2. I can connect to Artie because he is really wondering about the guy named Merlin. I would wonder about him to if someone said I was royal.

Mrs.Jewls in Wayside school is falling down has a great since of humor. Text evidence- she said a computer would make learning faster, and then she got and pushed it out the window. Then someone said "Now i get gravity"!

I connect to Benjerman Nushmutt in the book because when I was a kid and I went to Pre-school i was nervous and afraid I would mess up. Text evidence- Benjerman was afraid he would do something wrong or look weird.

1. I am a little worried about David because, he gets a little overboard about the rules her sister made along the way. For example: David's sister was talking to one of the movers and David blurts out, "If someone says hi you say hi back!" Catherine got a little mad and said, "Well look at the time sorry got to go." When they were in the car she made that one of her rules.

2. Some of the connections I have had while I have been reading are... I made some rules up for my brother when I was really little, and Catherine made up some rules for her brother because, David has autism. When we were in second grade we had some people come who had autism like David does.

2.No. Because she is not really that fun and not that adventurous.

MS said...

1.Ms.Jewls I think is a very nice person
2. I have a hard time remembering names like Ms.Jewls. Because she called Binjimin Nushmutt Mark Miller

Dear Ms. Sikes,

1.My initial thoughts of my character Lanesha is she is very kind I know this because there were bullies that were bullying her friend TaShon. She is about to fight the kids bullying him but before she could they ran off.

2.My connection is Text To Text and Text To World because everyday a lot of kids get bullied and in a lot of books kids get bullied, but the kids who see the bullying are scared to stand up to the bully, so we will always have bullying until kids will stand up to the bully.

1.i think my character is a good person. Because right now in the book she is helping a disabled little kid.But sometimes she can be mean to her brother because he has autism . when someone is disabled then your world will revolve around them if she or he is in your family.

2. i can connect to Kathryn because i have a little brother that is really allergic to any kind of nuts. He is always really worried about it. For example : he asked me if this other kind of orange juice. that's how bad it is .

1. What is your initial opinion of your character? Give text evidence.
James is horribly lonely and he misses his parents so much; but he
has perseverance and a good heart.

Ex. “And as he worked, James began thinking about all the other children in the world and what they might be doing at this moment. Some would be riding tricycles in their gardens. Some would be walking cool in the woods and picking bunches of wild flowers. And all the little friends whom he used to know would be down by the seaside, playing in the wet sand and splashing around in the water…Great tears began oozing out of James’s eyes and rolling down his cheeks.”

2. Do you connect to your character? Explain and give text evidence.
Yes!
Ex. “The ladybug rushed over and shook James warmly by the hand. The glowworm, who at the best of times was a very shy and silent creature sat glowing with pleasure near the tunnel entrance” I would be quite hectic if my fate was broken by seagulls lifting me up off the ground, thus saving my live from a herd of very hungry Sharks. At the same time, you get to fly for the first time in your life.Awesome.

1. Lanesha is very brave and kind. She is brave because during the hurricane she powered through it when she is almost by herself. She is kind because when TaShon came to her house from the Superdome and she let him in.

2. Yes, I used to not pay attention to someone and now we are best friends just like Lanesha and TaShon.

CW said...

1.My opinion of my character is: Lanesha is a caring character and she takes care of Mama Ya-Ya,so I think she is also a good student.

Ex:When the hurricane was coming Lanesha went to school and got a workbook to do when the hurricane comes. She takes care of Mama Ya-Ya because Mama Ya-Ya is old and uses a cane.

1. I think Lenesha is very brave, everyday she is teased and called names like Mama Ya Ya's witch and other wicked names and I think she is very brave to not chicken out and play sick instead she goes to school everyday and gets a good education.

2. I have a text-to-world connection, I think Lenesha is like Ruby Bridges because she is teased and bullied but she walks with her head held high and she goes to school to learn.
