Poetry Madness: Game 8

We are at the end of Round 1. I've enjoyed reading your responses, but can't wait to see what happens as the competition heightens!

Read Game 8 poems. Then answer each question. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition)and your personal connection to the meaning.

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

***I still notice some of us need to correctly capitalize the title of the poems. However, many of us responded with detail on Part 3. Keep up the good work!

Dear Ms Sikes,
1. "The New Suit" is about someone wearing a new suit who gives example NOT what to do.
2. "How to Eat a Poem" is about eating a poem, and there is nothing to throw away.
3. My favorite is "The New Suit" because it says like don't do it and then it says why, but the cool thing is that it doesn't rhyme, but it has flow!

Dear Ms. Sikes, I think "A New Suit " is about a man who is going to a party and every one is telling him waht not to do at the party in fear that he may get his new suit dirty.
I think that "How To Eat A Poem" is about how you eat a poem withiout a pit stem or core.
My favorite poem was " The New Suit" because I know what's it's like when parents tell me to do certain things just based on what I'm weaing.

1."The New Suit" is about someone's new suit and they are describing it and what color it is, and how tight it is, and other stuff like that.
2. "How to Eat a Poem" is basically about how to eat a poem, just bite in.
3. I chose "How to Eat a Poem" because it is very literal and inferential at the same time. For example, it says just bite right in. It's saying bite into the poem, like the actual paper, but at the same time it means read the poem.

"The New Suit " is about someone wearing a new suit to a birthday party and realizing that he doesn't want it to get messy. He concludes that next year he should wear old clothes so he can enjoy the party.

"How to Eat a Poem" is about someone telling someone to read a poem.

I like "How to Eat a Poem" because you have to infer and guess what she was talking about. I really like inferential poems. I think she's just telling someone to go ahead and read a poem.

The poem, "The New Suit" is about, a guy who got a new suit for party and didn't want to get it messy. He couldn't enjoy ice cream, cake, and everything else. The poem, "How to Eat a Poem" is about, a "food" that doesn't have anything that might get in the way of you eating it, and it doesn't have anything that you need to throw away. It is really everyones dream food! If I had to choose between "The New Suit", and "How to Eat a Poem" I would choose, "The New Suit". I chose this because I bought a new dress once and when I went to an Easter party I couldn't enjoy anything because I was so worried about not getting anything on it. I also liked how it told what he couldn't eat and what he wanted to eat!

Dear Ms. Sikes,

1."The New Suit" is about someone who is going to go to a party in their new suit, and people keep telling them what to do so they don't get it messy.

2."How to Eat a Poem" I think is about like reading a poem, and it is telling you the steps about it, except it is referring to it as "eating it".

2. I choose "How to Eat a Poem" because it is funny how it talks about "eating" a poem. I also like it because of the word choice. For example, "It is ready and ripe now, whenever you are".

1. "The New Suit is about a person that is headed to a party and is wearing nice clothes. But he has to make sure he is neat and doesn`t spill anything. Next year, he says he`s going to wear beat up clothes so he can do anything he wants.
2. "How to Eat a Poem" is about a person who is eating something which could be seen as about anything edible. He isn't afraid to dig in and be impolite about how quickly and messily he eats whatever he is eating.
3. I think "How to Eat a Poem" is the winner because it is something I can relate to about being very hungry and becoming impolite with my table manners which my mom has to tell me about a lot.

I think that the meaning of"The New Suit" is that someone is complaining that there a lot of things that could happen to a new suit.
I think that the meaning of"How to Eat a Poem is that a poem is always ripe and you don't need utensils or any thing to put a core, stem, or pit in because there is no core, stem, or pit to throw away.
I think that"The New Suit" wins because I didn't think that"How to Eat a Poem" made sense and I agree with"The New Suit".

"The New Suit" is about an ill fitting suit that a man was excited to wear to a party, but quickly realized that he couldn't do much in the new suit.

"How to Eat a Poem" is about how, what's needed, what's not in it, and of course how to eat a poem.

My favorite poem I think is "How to Eat a Poem," because I think it's funny, and it makes you interested in it. It also is a way of saying something else not just how to eat a poem, which is not possible, it says to me what you need to read/finish a poem. In a funny way saying, how to eat a poem.

Dear Ms. Sikes,
The poem the new suit is about a boy who has to get dressed up in a nice suit to go to his birthday party, but he would rather be in old clothes so he could enjoy himself. The poem how to eat a poem is about how eating fruit and reading a poem can be alike. I like the new suit the best because I can relate to it because I HATE!! dressing up.

Dear Ms.Sikes,
I think "The New Suit" is about a man who is having a party and is annoyed about how careful he has to be.
I think "How to Eat a Poem" is teaching you how to indulge in a poem and read it with feeling.
My favorite poem is "How to Eat a Poem" because it's the only poem in Poetry Madness that teaches you something. Also I love the richness of the poem and how it's worded.

1. "The New Suit" is about someone who wore a new suit for his birthday party. With the new suit came a lot of rules though that made the day not that fun. This made him decide to wear old clothes next year so he could have fun.
2. "How To Eat a Poem" is about how every part of a poem is important and to be devoured.
3. I chose "The New Suit" because I can relate to the boy. I once had to wear a suit and there were a lot of rules when I wore it. I think he should wear old clothes to his party next year too.
