From EN
Dear Ms. Sikes,
1. “Casey at the Bat” is less important because it is like me but I will probably not do what this person is doing for my career, also I can make a connection because this season in baseball I was down in the count 0-2 and I had to protect the plate and I struckout, and one last thing I think this the writer did not as good of a job.
2. “Mother to Son” is more important because it is like a example of life for me, also I can make a connection to the person because me and my mom talk about this stuff a lot, and one last thing this one the writer did a better job than the other one.
3. I like “Mother to Son” because it was written more like a story and told it better in my opinion, also I think it had a better story to tell and a better life meaning to me.
Your Student,

"Casey at Bat" is about a girl who takes advantage of what she has and she strikes out.
"Mother to Son" is about an older woman whoexplains to her son that life is no chrystal stair, their are things in life that you have to go through.
3.My favorite is "Mother to Son" because God is always with you and stays withyou to try to help out in bad times.
1."Mother to Son" means more to me because... It teaches a lesson that life is not easy. It has rocks and water falls in the way. It isn't a straight road with a nice clean finish.
2.I have had a lot of experiences in life that have not been a crystal stair. They have a had lots of rocks.
3.I like "Mother to Son" because it has nice word choice.
My favorite was "Mother to Son" this poem REALLY touches me and is my favorite poem of ALL TIME. I love the line, "LIfe ain't been no crystal stair." It just stands out to me so much. I love the mom encouraging her son to not give up even though their black.
I chose "Mother to Son" because it's about how life isn't perfect, there are bumps in the road and places you want to give up, but you have to keep on trying no matter what. You just have to keep on climbing up the long staircase of life.
Dear Ms.Sikes,
I think "Mother to Son" should move on to the next round because of all the wordplay. For example "life for me ain't been no crystal stair" that means life won't always be easy.
I also like how it's kind of like a story and how it sounds like dialog.
The poem, "Mother to Son" is more important to me. It's more important to me because I like how it tells a much more meaningful story then "Casey at Bat" does. I can also make a personal connection to "Mother to Son". I couldn't really make a connection to "Casey at Bat". I can make a personal connection to this because when we were skiing for Spring Break it was like hailing outside. We went down once and I started complaining that it was to hard to ski. My dad and I looked over and saw a five-year old little girl. She had on an orange tag and it said, "BLIND SKIER" on it. My dad looked at me and said, "When you think your having a bad day, think of that little girl. For her the day can only get better." That's what the mother is trying to tell her son. I also liked how everything kept up with the topic that it was on. The poem, "Casey at Bat" kind of got off topic (to me).
I think that the meaning of"Mother to Son" is that life is a journey and you can't stop to fix something that is to broken.
I think that the meaning of"Casey at the Bat" is that the team is in the bottom of the last inning and the best batter is up to bat and lets the first two pitches go by as strikes and on the third he swings and misses.
I think that the winner is"Casey at the Bat" because I like baseball and"Mother to Son" has really bad grammar.
“Casey at the Bat” begins with describing the rocky terrain on which they will play a game of bases, balls, and bats; baseball. When Casey came up to the bat, there was a “deathlike roar”. The Pitcher threw the ball and the umpire called the strikes; strike one, strike two, strike three, oh no! Maybe somewhere kids are laughing, maybe somewhere children shout, “But there is no joy in Mudville--Mighty Casey has struck out”
“Mother to Son” begins with the mother telling her son life is not perfect but then she tells him how she has been climbing, and climbing, and climbing. How she has been reaching landings and turning corners yet life still isn’t a crystal stair. The way she expressed that,”Life isn’t a crystal stair” brought the height of the story into a “Happily ever after, the end” although it isn’t. Life isn’t a crystal stair that one can climb with ease and grace, but a narrow labyrinth full of twists, turns, hasty decisions, and, yes, the beautiful lilac bubble surrounding you and leaving you unconscious of the imprint you make upon the world. Sometimes people call that sphere a “personal bubble”, and sometimes people refer to that bubble by way of comments such as, “Stop living in your own little bubble.”
My favorite poem was, “Mother to Son” because the incredible detail and meaning captured in the phrase, “Life ain’t no crystal stair”
Dear Ms. Sikes,
I choose "Casey at The Bat" because it speaks to me because I really like how it kinda teaches me to be determined, and even if you fail, it's okay. Even if your team mates think you can do it, and you don't and you fail, they are still going to be friends with you.
The poem"Mother to Son" is most important to me . I think that because I always think that mothers should encourage their sons and their daughters to never back down.
I can make a connection to "Mother to Son" because my mom always encourages me to never back down on what you are doing.
I like "Mother to Son's" poets craft better because I like the ryhme to the poem.
I chose "Casey at the bat" because it is about baseball and I love sports. My connection to Casey because in this story he plays sports and so do I, and I feel presured sometimes just like he is.
Dear Ms. Sikes,
Bullet Point 1#: I think "Mother to Son" is most meaning to me because it talks about not giving up, and that speaks to me.
Bullet Point 2#: My parents told me to never give up even when life is hard.
Bullet Point 3#: In this one I really like the choice of words he chose.
1.I think "Mother to Son" is about how life doesn't always go the way you want it to.
2. I think "Casey at Bat" is about a boy that needs to make a home run to win the game and is put to much pressure and strikes out.
3. I like "Casey at Bat" because it tells a story and it rhymes.
1.The poem that is important to me is "Mother to Son" because the mother is telling her son NEVER follow the crowed.even if your different there is someone out there who loves you, but you might not know it.
2.Once I was really nevous on the fist day of 4th grade cause I just got my hair cut, and I was afraid people wouldn't like it. I went into class and everybody liked it, but some people today don't like it, so I always think about this poem now.
3.I like how the poem ryhmes and how it just flows with the rest of the poem.
Dear Ms.Sikes,
I like "Mother to Son" because to me "Mother to Son" has a deeper meaning to it. It also has some history in it.
Dear MS. Sikes, I think "Mother To Son" should win. The reason is I can connect to this poem. My mother once sat me down and she told me that life isn't just going to give me everything I want when I want it, and I am going to have to work for what I get. That's why I want "Mother To Son" to win.
"Casey at the Bat" because it is telling you not to be full of your self. Not being full of yourself is a good life lesson because if you want to have true friends and be a good friend you can't brag about you accomplishments.
The personal connection I can make to "Casey at the Bat" is when I lived in Memphis there was a girl named Marie Hutton who went to my school. Marie always thought she was better than everyone. I tried to be her friend because I felt bad that she didn't have any, but I quickly realized why: she bragged. So I wasn't her friend any more.
My personal connection to "Mother to Son" is, my parents always try to teach me a lesson. I don't always see the lesson, but I realize what it is When the time comes. They try to teach me this to prepare my for anything, like that mother was doing to her son.
The poet's craft I like in "Casey at the Bat" is its word choice because it uses word we don't normally see or hear such as, "tumult",and "patrons".
The poet's craft I like most in "Mother to Son" is the rhyming because I have always liked rhyming words. I don't know why but I have!
Ms. Sikes,
The poem I chose that I liked better after reading it for the second time was... Still "Casey at the bat" I like this poem better because of how all the words mix together and rhyme! Some life connections I made were knowing the feeling when presur is on for example I was getting ready for my first day of Jr. Tennis and I was so nervous that I was going to fain literally fail!!!!!
Important info I would like to add is when Casey is up to bat that is also the main idea of the poem!
Kiki
1."Mother to Son" is about a mom talking to her son about how life isn't always easy.
2."Casey at the Bat" is about a boy who is really confident that he will hit the ball so he just lets the other team have strike one and two and he misses it on strike three.
3.I like "Mother to Son" because I can connect to it because when I was little my mom and dad would talk to me about life in general. I also really liked the literature and how it relates to a staircase.
I like the poem "Mother to Son" because it really makes you realize that a lot of people don't live easy lives like the mother, and they don't always get what they really want and sometimes even what they need.
I can make a connection to 'Mother to Son" because my mom hasn't had an easy life when she had cancer, but she kept going and set a good example for me to keep going, even when I feel tired and lonely and don't want to do something.
I like the way that "Mother to Son" uses the names of things like tacks, splinter, broken boards and other things that hurt to touch or step on as hard times in her life. I also like how she is encouraging her son to keep going in life even when times are hard, and to never give up whatsoever.
I like the poem mother to son the best because I like the way Langston Hughs is telling even when life gets hard keep on trying. My parents sometimes tell me to keep trying and don’t give up even when life gets hard. I like the way that Langston Hughs is
Comparing life to a crystal stairway and a old beat up stairway.
"Mother to Son" is about a mom telling her son how hard it was to take care of him, and how wild he was.
"Casey at the Bat" is about a boy named Casey who stepped up to the base to hit a winning home run.
"Casey at the Bat" wins because I can connect because I have been under that kind of pressure to make a winning free throw or something like that.
Dear Ms. Sikes,
I like "Mother to Son" better because the meaning applies to my life more than the other poem. I also get told the same thing by my mom sometimes. I agree with the person that wrote this poem. So I vote for "Mother to Son" to move on in the tournament.
Dear Ms. Sikes,
1. "Casey at The Bat" has a more meaning to me because Casey has a lot of pressure to win the game for his team.
2. I can connect to Casey because I also feel pressure during games sometimes too. Once two years ago in baseball, that happened to me when we were in the championship game but I hit the ball.
3. I enjoyed "Casey At the Bat" the most because I liked how the poet used the craft of rhyme. I also liked the word choice. The poem was really interesting.
Dear Ms. Sikes
The first poem is about a guy who plays baseball. The next poem is about a mother to son connection. I chose "Mother to Son" because I like the word choice.

Oscar
